Karmen is a Maryland-based photographer with a decade of experience crafting captivating visuals in the worlds of fashion and travel. Her journey began in the heart of Parisian and New York runways, documenting street style and capturing the essence of haute couture.
Driven by a passion for visual storytelling, Karmen transcends mere documentation. She uses her lens to rewrite narratives, particularly for places close to her heart. Having spent parts of her childhood in Baltimore, Maryland, and Accra, Ghana, she embarks on photographic missions to showcase these cities beyond the limitations of negative media portrayals.
While acknowledging real-world challenges, Karmen champions the power of positive visual storytelling. Her photographs celebrate the beauty and vibrancy that often goes unseen, fostering a shift in global perception.
Her self-produced photography projects have been widely successful and have caught the attention of Instagram’s Director of Fashion Partnerships and a commission from Ghana’s Tourism Authority, per the esteemed recommendation of the President of the Republic of Ghana.
“I’ve always loved telling stories. I grew up writing them, drawing them, and eventually sharing them through photographs. I am especially enamored by the power of photography to tell infinite stories.
Karmen’s extensive fashion archive, built over ten years, positions her as a valuable asset within the industry. Her collaborations with Baltimore Magazine, including style assistance on major fashion issues, further solidify her expertise. Additionally, her diverse portfolio encompasses content creation (photography & animation) for various small businesses across beauty, hospitality, fashion, and travel.
Looking ahead, Karmen aspires to leverage her storytelling prowess in a new direction – creative direction. She envisions producing captivating visuals for major marketing campaigns across multiple industries in 2020 and beyond.
