Karmen is a freelance fashion and travel photographer based in Maryland. She got her start in photography shooting street style and runway looks in Paris and New York for nearly a decade! A traveler at heart, Karmen has always been passionate about not only visual storytelling but more notably using photography as a tool to rewrite the narrative.

For years, she has photographed cities such as Baltimore, Maryland and Accra, Ghana (both cities she spent some part of her childhood) on a mission to change the negative narrative in the media.

I don’t deny that problems such as violence in Baltimore or poverty in Africa exist, but I want the world to know it isn’t the only story. I consider it a privilege to be able to use positive visual storytelling as a catalyst to change negative perceptions around the world and share my philosophy that there is beauty everywhere!

Her self-produced photography projects have been widely successful and have caught the attention of Instagram’s Director of Fashion Partnerships and, quite recently, Ghana’s Tourism Authority who commissioned prints of Karmen’s travel photography per the esteemed recommendation of the President of the Republic of Ghana!

With an impressive collection of ten years of street style photography archives under her belt, Karmen is no stranger to the fashion industry and has worked on multiple occasions with Baltimore Magazine offering style assistance on the magazine’s major fashion issues including the 2018 Beauty Issue, 2 Fall fashion spreads, and an upcoming spread staring actor McCaul Lombardi.

Karmen has also worked on content creation (photography & animation) for several small businesses including beauty, hospitality, fashion, and travel brands.

In 2020, she hopes to extend her storytelling skills into creative directing and producing visuals for major marketing campaigns across several industries.

I’ve always loved telling stories. I grew up writing them, drawing them, and eventually sharing them through photographs. I am especially enamored by the power of photography to tell infinite stories.
